Assessments |
Grades will be assessed using a point system. The total number of points possible will divide the number of points you receive. This
percentage will be your health grade. Items from the list below will have the following point totals associated with them.
Tests and Quizzes - All test and quiz questions will be worth four points. o Tests will be announced ahead of time and include many questions. Tests are designed to evaluate the students’ knowledge of an entire unit. o Quizzes are not necessarily announced and contain fewer questions. Quizzes are designed to evaluate the student’s knowledge of particular lessons within a unit.
Completion of Homework – Each homework assignment is assessed a point value based on its level of difficulty, (usually 1 point per question). Homework may be turned in a class late for half credit. Homework is graded only on whether it is completed, not on accuracy. Homework is reviewed in class allowing students the opportunity to correct any mistakes. o Worksheets designed to introduce new information/concepts. o Worksheets designed to demonstrate knowledge of concepts taught. o Projects and/or presentations.
Extra credit work – Possibility of 2 points per day, (on test days extra credit is canceled). There are opportunities for double extra credit. o Students may bring in an article concerning human health. They must have read the article and do an approximate 30 second to 1 minute presentation to the class, (sharing the information in the article). The presentation takes place in their seat and is informal. These articles often lead to great discussions about current health information relevant to today’s children and society. o Articles can be found anywhere; newspaper, magazines, Internet, etc.,
Class participation – Cooperative learning exercises o A subjective grade designed only to help students. Point value is minimal, but is designed to help children who worked hard and participated in class activities/discussions improve their grade.
